RULES FOR PORTFOLIO READING

The reading of portfolios submitted to the 4th Latin American Photography Forum of Sao Paulo, promoted by Itaú Cultural, is an opportunity for photographers to present their works to editors, curators and meeting planners and other professionals.

On the registration

Registration is free of charge and for individuals only. There is no specific requirement with regard to age or education. Registration will only be taken through our website at www.itaucultural.org.br/forumfoto2016 until April 5, 2016.

Applicants must submit a photo-essay or a specific-theme work and agree with the rules set forth herein, fully complete the registration form and send the material and content listed below through a digital form. Registrations without the material below will not be accepted.

  • a brief personal biography not exceeding 2,000 (two thousand) characters with spaces;

  • an essay and/or photographic work (a set of photographs showing thematic and/or technique unity) with 6 (six) to 12 (twelve) medium-resolution photos;

  • a text describing the assay or photographic work containing a maximum of 2,000 (two thousand) characters with spaces.

At the time of registration, the applicant must indicate only 2 (two) days for the portfolio reading, in order of priority, and s/he is free to choose any day based on her/his convenience.

Portfolios will be reviewed by no more than 8 (eight) professionals with recognized erudition about the objective and the subject proposed for the 4th Latin American Photography Forum of Sao Paulo. The list of assessors for the readings as well as the time frame when they are scheduled to take place will be set by Itaú Cultural.

After choosing the day of the portfolio reading and definitive submission of registration, the indicated date cannot be changed under no circumstance or justification.

The applicant must submit an authorial work with a minimum of 6 (six) and a maximum of 12 (twelve) photographs of no more than 1,024 pixels each on the shorter side. The photographs must be identified with the author's name (birth or stage name) and a sequential number (e.g. name01.jpg) and sent no later than the registration deadline – April 5, 2016. No submissions will be accepted after that date.

The applicant is hereat aware that, once photo-essays or photographic works have been sent, the materials and content therein will become available to the selection committee and that, as soon as registration for the selection process is effected, Itaú Cultural is entitled to post the images on its website and shall be held harmless of any liability thereto, including liability related to any third party, particularly copyright and personality rights.

On registering to the portfolio reading at the 4th Latin American Photography Forum of Sao Paulo, the applicants hereby represent that the material thereof does not have any content that:

  1. is confidential or subject to non-disclosure agreements;

  2. may cause damage to third parties, either through libel, slander or calumny, property damage and/or pain and suffering;

  3. contains data or information that constitute or may constitute a crime (or misdemeanor) or that can be regarded as inducing to crimes (or misdemeanors);

  4. contains racist or discriminatory data or information;

  5. depicts a minor without the permission, in writing, of the minor's parents or legal guardians and, when necessary, a judicial order;

  6. shows an intention to publicize a product or service or has any business purpose;

  7. promotes electioneering or spreads an opinion for or against a particular candidate or party;

  8. has been produced by a third party;

  9. breaches the personality rights and intellectual property, in particular copyright and trademark rights.

The applicant must be the sole rightholder or author of the essays, works and other content included in the portfolio submitted to the selection process of this call. Submission of any other material and content owned by third parties shall not be accepted even if they were given to the applicant or are licensed. Failure to comply with this requirement will cause the registration to be canceled as well as participation in the selection process at any time.

During the registration period – from February 23 to April 5, 2016 – the form can be edited as many times as needed, provided that the applicant saves any changes made by clicking Save. To finish the registration and send the form, the applicant must click Save and finish. After this step, no more changes will be allowed.

Itaú Cultural undertakes to notify the applicant as soon as possible of any changes made to the schedule of portfolio readings or any case of an act of God or force majeure.

On the selection

A total of 72 (seventy-two) portfolios out of all submissions received will be picked by the selection committee to go through the reading process over the three days of the forum.

The selection committee will be formed by Fredi Casco, Gui Mohallem, Iatã Cannabrava and Lívia Aquino, professionals with recognized erudition and technical knowledge about photography.

The selection committee is independent and their decisions are final. Hence, no challenge or appeal can be lodged.

Scheduling of the reading date of each portfolio selected will take into account the preferred date informed by the applicant. However, changes may happen depending on time availability.

On the results

The results will be made known on April 26 on the website www.itaucultural.org.br/forumfoto2016. The applicants selected will receive an e-mail up to two weeks prior to the portfolio reading confirming that their portfolio has been selected and they are to participate in the forum.

The disclosure date may be changed at the sole discretion of Itaú Cultural if the selection process is affected by any delay or adverse effect jeopardizing review of the portfolios submitted.

On the exclusion criteria

Participation is prohibited to employees, interns and contributors of any nature with Itaú Cultural and Itaú Unibanco, including their spouses, partners, children, siblings and dependents.

Itaú Cultural's service providers whose contracts are in force during the registration and selection period are not allowed to participate in the forum either.

Former employees and former interns of Itaú Cultural and Itaú Unibanco are allowed to participate only if they were terminated at least one year prior to publication of these rules, i.e., February 23, 2016.

Prohibition to participation also applies to spouses, partners, children, siblings and dependents of the members of the selection committee.

Registrations from any individual meeting any of the exclusion criteria shall be considered null and void at any stage.

On the dates and members of the portfolio reading

All portfolio readings are scheduled to take place from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Date of the first reading: June 16, 2016

Date of the second reading: June 17, 2016

Date of the third reading: June 18, 2016

The portfolios selected will be given out randomly to the reading assessors - as listed below. Hence your portfolio may be read by up to 8 (eight) assessors in 1 (one) or 2 (two) days, occasionally.

RULES FOR THE WORKSHOPS

On the registration

Registration is free of charge and for individuals only with no specific requirement about age and education.

Those interested in participating can only register through the website at www.itaucultural.org.br/forumfoto2016, until April 5,2016.

Applicants must agree with the rules set forth herein, fully complete the registration form and send the material and content listed below through a digital form. Registrations without the material below will not be accepted.

  • a brief personal biography not exceeding 2,000 (two thousand) characters with spaces;

  • an essay and/or photographic work (a set of photographs with thematic and/or technical unity) containing 6 (six) to 12 (twelve) photographs (images with a maximum size of 1,024 pixels on the shorter side);

  • a text describing the essay/photographic work or a project proposal containing up to 2,000 (two thousand) characters with spaces.

  • Important: the photo-essay is not required for the workshops Domesticities and A Broomberg & Chanarin Experience.

    In case of sending a photo-essay, the applicant must attach to the form 6 (six) to 12 (twelve) photographs of a maximum of 1,024 pixels each on the shorter side. The images must be identified with the author's name (birth or stage name) and a sequential number (e.g. name01.jpg) and posted no later than the registration deadline – April 5, 2016. No submissions will be accepted after that date. Images posted or changed on the album after the registration deadline will not be accepted.

    At the time of registration the applicant must indicate up to 2 (two) workshops of her/his interest, in order of preference, and s/he - if selected - will be allowed to attend 1 (one) workshop as assigned by the selection committee based on assessment of the works submitted.

    After choosing the day of the workshop and definitively submitting the registration, the indicated dates cannot be changed under no circumstance or justification.

    During the registration period – from February 23 to April 5, 2016 – the form can be edited as many times as needed, provided that the applicant saves any changes made by clicking Save. To finish the registration and send the form, the applicant must click Save and finish. After this step, no more changes will be allowed.

    Itaú Cultural undertakes to notify the applicant as soon as possible of any changes made to the schedule of the workshops or any case of an act of God or force majeure.

    On the selection

    The selection committee will choose 20 (twenty) works by workshop out of all the submissions received.

    The selection committee will be formed by Fredi Casco, Gui Mohallem, Iatã Cannabrava and Lívia Aquino, professionals with recognized erudition and technical knowledge about photography.

    The selection committee is independent and their decisions are final. Hence, no challenge or appeal can be lodged.

    An attempt will be made to assign the selected applicant to the workshop of her/his preference as indicated in the registration. However, changes may happen according to open vacancies in each workshop. Assignment will be made at the sole discretion and is under the responsibility of Itaú Cultural.

    On the results

    The results will be made known on April 26, 2016 on the website www.itaucultural.org.br/forumfoto2016. The applicants selected will receive a confirmation e-mail up to two weeks prior to the workshop day.

    The disclosure date may be changed at the sole discretion of Itaú Cultural if this is necessary so that the selection process can be finalized without prejudice to the review of the works submitted.

    On the exclusion criteria

    Participation is prohibited to employees and interns with Itaú Cultural and Itaú Unibanco, including their spouses, partners, children, siblings and dependents.

    Itaú Cultural's service providers whose contracts are in force during the registration and selection period are not allowed to participate in the forum either.

    Former employees and former interns of Itaú Cultural and Itaú Unibanco are allowed to participate only if they were terminated at least one year prior to publication of these rules, i.e., February 23, 2016.

    All workshops will be held on June 16, 17 and 18, 2016 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and on June 19, 2016 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
