Futuros do Pretérito: utopias e códigos projetivos | |

Abstract: |
We start from a fundamental question: how we deal with the artistic utopias erected during the now ending century? Today, more than ever, Science and Imaginary have been gathered together. We have to ask for the alive memory of the experiences that pioneered this intersemiotic transition: Which were the codes of the past that looked forward to draw an utopian future? Inversely, which is the impact of this past "future" nowadays? Which were the projects of a future that is now past? Can we affirm such a thing? In a "post-utopian" (Haroldo de Campos) end-of-century, how we deal with the heritage of the ones that envisioned our time and the one is coming? Not all the artists of the beginning of the century avant-gardist utopia are sufficiently mapped. Also we now know that some of their proposals rested forgotten for the most part of this hundred years and only in the last decades were subject of a re-evaluation. This sort of approach is never free of some arbitrairiness. We decided to report ourselves mainly to the work of the so-called "visonnaires" of the Russian Avant-Garde such as Velimir Khlébnikov, K. Malevitch, V. Chernikhov, Pavel Filonov, Piotr Miturich and Mikhail Matiushin. Such a choice has to do mainly with the preoccupation with the future which is a landmark of these artists works. We propose a work that comes to be, on one side, an independent development of the Project "Memória Digital" ("Digital Memories") runned by Renato Cohen and Lucio Agra in the context of the Post-graduation Program on Communication and Semiotics at PUC-SP. On the other hand, it tries to give continuity to a research line started with the Performance/Installation Maquina Futurista (Futurist machine) (1997, Instituto Cultural Itaú) , which web-site is now hosted at PUC-SP's server (http://www.pucsp.br/~cos-puc/budetlie/index.html). The same kind of work was developed on stage by the theatrical scene Ka based on the text of Velimir Khébnikov and presented under the direction of Renato Cohen (http://iar.unicamp.br/~projka/). The work proposed here is a web-site presented during the event as well as in a specific session, and also digital animations. The two vehicles will be put forward in order to give a nowadays vision, in digital media, of the mentioned artists multiple propositions, trying to show that their research find, today, an excellent medium extremely fitted to these. The colour experiences of Matiushin at Moscow's Vkhutemas, the intersemiotic translations from Khlebnikov's poetry to Miturich's works of art, Filonov's dinamic mosaic paintings, Chernikhov multimediatic architecture, Malevitch's space without referentials and Khlébnikov's numerological utopias will be treated, as we call it, "projective codes". They envision a horizon beyond their own epoch (consequently they are very hard to reduce to a mouvement or tendency of their time). Clearly our proposal takes advantage from the ambiguity between past and future and intends to revalidate an ancient contribution in the name of a perspective to the future. The avant-gardes' time, the future time, is the present in where we live. Our work intends to be a speculation of the future we all want. |
