Title:

Women, Art and Technology Proposal by Leonardo/ISAST for two 90-minute panels at Invencao

Keywords:

Abstract:

These two panels will consist of women artists and theorists from around the world and will provide an overview of the variety of works women artists are currently creating with technology-based art media such as artificial life, virtual reality, video and multimedia installations, digital imaging systems, kinetic sculpture, and web-based and online art.

Panel members will provide brief descriptions of their work, leading to a general discussion of the contributions of women artists and development of new media. The panels will consider how issues of gender and identity have been addressed in the artworks and art forms of the twentieth century, as well as the evolution of media and concepts in the next millennium.

These panels are proposed in conjunction with the proposed online panel coordinated by Judy Malloy: Gender Identity in New Media, as part of the Leonardo Women, Art and Technology Project.

Proposed panel members include:

Christa Sommerer, Donna Cox,
Nell Tenhaaf, Kathy Rae Huffman,
Monika Fleischmann, Victoria Vesna,
Marilyn Waligore, Janet Saad-Cook,
Sonya Rapoport, Simone Osthoff,
Valerie Soe, Sheila Pinkel,
Liliane Lijn, Jennifer Hall,
Diana Domingues

Final panel lists to be confirmed.
