Abstract:

The registration of our multimedia work - a site in the Internet - in the "Invention - Thinking the Millennium". Title: "Please, rape my tree".

"Please, rape my tree" is a multimedia work, that is, photography, digital imaging and Internet. We intend to think about a singular form of violence suffered by nature which "insists" on surviving and "disturbing" the development of the city: we speak of the mutilations suffered by the trees in order to allow the transmission of electricity through poles and electric wires. If it is truth that the full pruning of a tree can be considered a much more violent gesture, it is also truth that it does not leave evidence. It is exactly the mark, the sign, the "mutilated body", that we intend to register, the fact we want to underline.

Description of the Work
The conceptual triad on which this proposal is supported is: (1) mutilated trees, (2) photographic register, and (3) digital manipulation of information. We intend to review the implicit assumption of the analyses of digital photography, which assumes to be this type of photography ontologically false; in our proposal, the manipulation intends to bring up the "truth".
1. We have done photographic pictures of mutilated trees (Campinas - SP).
2. From the technical point of view, the photographic register was absolutely straight (to use a famous jargon, "straight photography").
3. The photographic pictures, in a second moment, were scanned and computer manipulated. This digital interference over the chemical film did not aim to eliminate the photographic reference (the mutilated trees). The photographic manipulation had the objective to detach, to underline, to evidence the violence suffered by the trees.
4. Finally, these pictures will be incorporated to a site. Preview:
Resources Needed
1. PC computers and Internet access.
2. Despite of the Internet site, this work is also composed of an Installation. It is possible to show both the site and the Installation at "Invention".
