Abstract: |
Since the beginning of the 1970’s, I have produced artworks by utilizing communication circuits. The works I have exhibited are such as “Video Game Gomokunarabe” at the 13th Sao Paulo Biennale in 1975 and “Between Sound & Sound No. 1” for Video ’84 at Montreal Contemporary Art Museum in 1984, both utilizing Satellite. From 1988 by actually using satellite and ISDN, I have consistently explored my expression to make an international network. From April to May 1989, in the exhibition titled “Encounter between Paper and Electronic Media”, I developed RENGA (Linked Pictures) utilizing telephone lines between Tokyo, Fukui and Kyoto. I further developed RENGA through the international ISDN in the exhibition titled “Japan - France Network Art”, which was between Tokyo, Fukui, Nagoya and Paris. Since then, I have continuously explored into the new field as written below by giving consideration to the development in the 21st century. As a director, I have also dedicated my time to the World Wide Network Art Exhibition held annually. Linked Picture Linked Poem Panorama Linked Picture Musical Score Communication VR Installation Network Art (Example: Sliding Paper Door Instrument) Painting Collaboration through Communication (Idea and expression to share the same data and also to share the same time and space) Duet through Communication _$B!!!!_(B Out of the new expressions I have developed written above, for Invencao, I will connect three sections, mainly showing the documents of the actual process I have taken. One, VR Installation Network Art (Ex. Sliding Paper Door Instrument - a live, two-way communication performance with remote places at FM level by utilizing paper door as a screen, and by attaching many sensors to its frame to turn this into an instrument). Two, Painting Collaboration through Communication (time and space will be shared by two people in remote places by painting one work together. The strength of the brushstrokes will create sounds to make music). Three, Panorama Linked Picture (360 degree field of vision will be made through remote control which will create Linked pictures). |
