Abstract: |
I´m working on my dissertation
about hypermontage on a field of multimedia art and carrying on my post-graduate studies
at The University of Art and Design, Helsinki since 1995. In my work I analyzing the
interactive nature of the moving image and constructing aesthetic models on a context of
multimedia. My viewpoint is of the general philosophical and pragmatist framework. I´m also applying a semiotic approach to my subject. I´m drawing a comparison between the semiotic, triadic concept by philosopher Charles S. Peirce and the theory of the perception and montage by film maker, theorist Sergei Eisenstein. I´m filtering the result though texts by John Dewey, Gilles Deleuze, Edmund Husserl, Richard Shusterman and Pentti Määttänen. The main goal is to construct the usable foundation for the theoretical models of the interactive moving image. According to philosophical pragmatism human experience is basically practical interaction with the environment. Cognition and perception are related to doing, making and acting. The environment is multilayered, it consists of natural objects, artifacts, other humans, linguistic signs and other meaningful entities - like works of art. My aim is to do the research of the semiotics of the interactivity specifying to the questions of the film montage. My dissertation has also an artistic part in several media art works and exhibitions (production years 1998-2000). At this moment my work "TRIAD HYPERDANCE" is available on the web site of the Electronic Journal CTHEORY at the url http://ctheory.concordia.ca. My next web art piece "NEONOMADS" will be published on January, 1999. I´d like to make a presentation of these works as a part of my contribution. |
