Abstract: |
The Wanderer is a web artwork in
progress that seeks for the awareness of a process which we are going through in this globalization era: living in a multicentered society in search for its lost center. The nomadism in which the artists are living nowadays leads to an increasing number of multicultured and multidisciplinary artworks intermingling space and memory bringing into a close connection art, public and context. Technology enables us to engage in new discussions about these concepts and provides the means for artistic updating. The choice for a web art project seems to be just natural for the possibilities of getting connected to people with different memories. For The Wanderer project, the written word was chosen in order to create genetic texts in an interactive tridimensional environment. It is a simulation of a self-organized poetic system which grows in a software which has some analogy to some characteristics of living systems: birth; mating; death; adaptive changes in the flow of generations; memory. Written words filled with inheritable characteristics are supposed to create new forms in a continuous transformation caused by the interference of new generations of texts included by visitors and transformed along the path via internet. It is a system dynamically adapting to both, changes coming from itself and from public intervention, including some randomness, all under evolutionary laws programed by genetic algorithms. This work in progress is the result of a long research by an interdisciplinary group, which has been continually introducing his critical judgement to it and is looking for contibutions from the congress participants. |
