Abstract:

As digital representation beomes more prominent and sometimes less
distinguishable from analogue representation, this paper will take up the
timely debates in an ongoing discussion of the changes in media that occur when analogue forms of representation are transformed through the use of electronic and digital media. Formal and structural analysis of digital arts might discuss the shift from analog to digital, from intermedia to hypermedia on the level of visibility and reflexivity. How do static and
dynamic features of imaging interact to create the effect of a coherent
moving image, or conversely, fragment the text? Current debates on vision and visuality need to consider electronic and digital processes of imaging; what is the function of representation and presentation that digital technology makes available? What is the function of the figure and the abstract? How does the digitial allow to reenter the forms of the
photographic and cinematographic representation.

The paper relates to the expanding field of Media Theories that address
aspects of art, film and photography theory with regard to digital media.
In questioning the different functions of representation and presentation
in analog and digital media it will be interesting to discuss the effects
of recording, animation, and simulation. The paper wishes to focus on the
construction and deconstruction of visibility so that we can discuss the
notion of visual arts after the age of analog representation.
