An artist with an extensive teaching career (from 1967 to the present), Silveira has taught at the Institute of the Arts of the UFRGS, the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez, the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (Faap) in São Paulo and at ECA/USP. She was a resident artist at the Banff Centre in Canada and at the Ranieri Civitella Foundation in Italy.
Since the 1960s, she has shown her work in individual exhibitions and in selected collective exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. She has participated in editions of the São Paulo Biennial, the Havana Biennial, the Mercosul Biennial and the International Biennial of Curitiba, among others. Some highlights of her individual exhibitions include Lumen, in Spain; Sombra Luminosa, in Colombia; Tropel Reversed, in Denmark; Abyssal, in Poland; El Sueño de Mirra y Otras Constelaciones, in Mexico; Linha de Sombra, 1001 Dias e Outros Enigmas e Crash, in Brazil. Silveira was recently awarded prizes from Bravo Prime (2007), the Bunge Foundation (2009), ABCA (2012) and Masp (2013).
