ACQUISITIONS

By suggestion of the curators of Modos de Ver o Brasil: 30 anos Itaú Cultural [Ways of Seeing Brazil: 30 Years of Itaú Cultural], Paulo Herkenhoff, Thais Rivitti and Leno Veras, the current holding of about 15,000 items was increased by 48 works that have enriched the overall collection.

The Itaú Unibanco Art Collection
acquired new works of art and
strengthened its Afro-Brazilian holdings

Forty-eight years since Olavo Egydio Setubal acquired Povoado numa Planície Arborizada, a 17th century oil on wood work by Dutch painter Frans Post, the starting point of the collection of Brazilian art, the Itaú Unibanco Art Collection has grown to approximately 15,000 items, becoming one of the largest corporate collections in the world and the largest one in Latin America. Maintained and managed by Itaú Cultural, it is comprised of modern and contemporary art works, including paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures and installations, in addition to Brasiliana works, containing images from the national iconography since the discovery of the country, and stamp and numismatic collections. The Itaú Cultural artist film and video and computer art collections are also an important component. The overall collection has been recently increased by 48 works made by Brazilian artists – 17 of them strengthening its Afro-Brazilian holdings.
